A VISCOUS FLOW SIMULATION OF FLOW ABOUT THE 1/40-SCALE MODEL OF THE US AIRSHIP AKRON AT INCIDENCE ANGLE

A three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes code based on an artificial compressibility, implicit-upwind-relaxation, flux- splitting algorithm is employed to simulate the flow about a 1/40- scale model of the US airship Akron at several incidence angles. The distributions of transverse forces along the hull and the integrated moments about the centre of buoyancy are computed and comparisons with the measurements are made.
