DEVELOPMENT OF LARGE CAR/PASSENGER FERRIES USING THE LATEST PRACTICAL DESIGN TOOLS AND METHODS

This paper describes the latest design tolls and methods applied to the development of the new generation of ferries in Japan. In order to develop high performance ferries, the latest methods of evaluating ship performance such as wave-making resistance, propeller characteristics, manoeuvrability and seakeeping are used extensively as well as model tests.
