A FINITE ELEMENT FORMULATION OF SHIP CROSS-SECTIONAL STIFFNESS PARAMETERS
Shear area, torsional warping moduli, as well as normal and shear stress flows are determined by the finite element method employing a membrane strip element, within the classical theory of thin-walled girders. Some deficiencies of the classical theory compared to the higher-order theory are pointed out. The finite element procedure and the developed computer program are tested for the case of simple cross-section girders. For illustration, the midship section properties of a container ship are analysed.
