THE GERMAN NAVY'S TYPE 332 MINEHUNTERS
After 30 years in service, several of the German Navy's minesweepers and minehunters had become obsolete and were in such poor condition that they had to be decommissioned. This resulted in a requirement for a new generation of MCM vessels. A preliminary investigation revealed that design requirements for minehunters and minesweepers were the same in many respects. This article describes the Navy's new Type 332 minehunters but also touches on the Type 343 fast minesweepers now in service, as the two types of vessel are related through the 'common platform concept'.
