THE DESIGN AND COMPARISON OF HIGH-PERFORMANCE MARINE CRAFT, A RATIONAL APPROACH TO SELECTION
The development of software for the computer-aided design and the economic assessment of high-performance marine craft is described. The approach integrates the use of a series of whole-ship design-synthesis math models, and AutoCAD drafting system and a life-cycle-cost model. Several design examples are given including the design and assessment of an SES patrol craft. The paper shows how, by using the approach for SES, ACVs, Catamarans and Monohulls, preferred designs can be selected and compared that feature either minimum cost, minimum power, minimum weight or maximum payload.
