FLOATING AMUSEMENT COMPLEX ESTRELLA FOR KURE PORTOPIALAND

A unique floating amusement complex, ESTRELLA, modelled on the Costa del Sol in Spain has been completed by IHI for Kure Portopialand. The park is located in Kure City about 18 km east from Hiroshima City and was opened to the public on March 20, 1992. ESTRELLA resembles a luxurious passenger ship and has various leisure facilities such as an open event stage for 2 000 spectators, a cinema, an electric game centre, an exhibition hall and restaurants. This is the first floating steel structure newly built at a shipyard satisfying both the Ship Safety Law and the Building Standards Law of Japan.
