SERVOMECHANISMS OF CONTROLLABLE PITCH PROPELLERS

Steady-state properties and dynamic behaviour of constant flow servomechanisms of controllable pitch propellers have been expressed in a universal, nondimensional form. Dynamic characteristics are given for the idealised servomechanisms only, but for a real servomechanism conditions have been determined under which the servomechanism's behaviour is satisfactory and close to the behaviour of the idealised one. Imperfection of the real servomechanism, causing differences between the real and idealised servomechanism, has been expressed as a vector of imperfection. Formulas have been found to determine the vector's components as the functions of the servo motor constants as well as ways to determine the admissible servomechanism's imperfection. Examples of the universal servomechanism's characteristics are given as well as examples of solving design problems in a universal nondimensional form.
