GRAVITY WAVES AND THEIR INTERACTION WITH FLOATING TWIN BODIES

In this paper the dynamic responses of twin bodies connected by springs under the action of incident waves are discussed. The Galerkin approximation is used in the fluid region to derive the finite element method. The radiation waves generated by twin bodies floating on water, are computed by this method. In order to check the method, the added mass coefficients and the wave damping coefficients for a single half circular cylinder are calculated and compared with those obtained from various other methods and they are in very good agreement. The calculations for twin bodies are performed for 20 different frequencies. The added mass coefficients and the wave damping coefficients for twin bodies display complicated variations with respect to frequencies. The dynamic responses of twin bodies with connections of different stiffness are calculated. The results show that for each dynamic response there always exist two peak values with respect to frequencies. The bigger stiffness of the connection may counteract the sheltering effect from the upwave body.
