A BASIC STUDY ON VALIDITY OF A NIGHT VISION SCOPE FOR NIGHT NAVIGATION
Night lookout duty has become more difficult because of changed navigational environments such as increased ship speeds, unconventional ship shapes etc. However, lookout is still very much dependent on the eyesight of the watch officers. Tests were carried out in laboratory and field conditions to see if a Night Vision Scope could help to make this task easier. As a result of the experiment, the authors propose a lookout support system which processes the output of a Night Vision Scope by image analysis equipment.
