A HIGH RESOLUTION ACOUSTICAL IMAGING SYSTEM

This paper describes a high resolution SONAR, specifically developed for underwater inspection applications. It furnishes 3-D-acoustical images of the insonified region. The design and characteristics of the system are presented, with special emphasis on the technological solutions adopted and the high rate of parallelism achieved. In this way the system is able to operate in real time with significant performances.
