HYDRODYNAMIC DESIGN OF THE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH VEHICLES MIR

The hydrodynamic design of the MIR deep-sea research vehicles is examined. The general properties of the vehicles are presented first and various model tests and numerical simulations are discussed thereafter. The special interest in the hydrodynamics of these vehicles is due to the relatively high speed of advance, which requires good stability and manoeuvring properties of the vessels. Test results with the full-scale vessel confirmed the main results of the hydrodynamic study.
