SHIPBORNE PASSIVE DECOYS

Passive Decoys are deployed with the aims of giving misleading information regarding the numbers and disposition of a naval force (deception), presenting an alternative target (distraction) and deflecting attacks by extending the target (seduction). The passive decoys considered in this article are radar reflective devices such as chaff or floating decoys intended to deceive or distract, and infra-red decoys intended to seduce heat-seeking missiles away from the target or to confuse surveillance.
