PROPELLER DESIGN AND VERIFICATION FOR A DERATED TURBINE CONTAINERSHIP: ENERGY SAVING AND MODEL-SHIP CORRELATION RESULTS

FINCANTIERI-C.N.I., in cooperation with the Italian Navy and CETENA, have set up a propeller redesigning methodology and testing technique in both model and full-scale conditions, particularly suitable for "derated" ships. Among other ship refittings, FINCANTIERI-C.N.I. have performed the "derating" of steam turbine propulsion plants for two sister containerships, while a redesigned propeller has been applied at present on one of them. The adopted methodologies and the results obtained from such an application are described and reported.
