AN ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF FREEWAYS ON URBAN LAND DEVELOPMENTS IN NORTH CAROLINA (INCLUDING GUIDELINES FOR HIGHWAY PLANNING AND DESIGN)
An analysis is made of the impact of freeways upon land development on the entire freeway system in North Carolina with particular emphasis on the five major urban areas of the state. A very detailed analysis is made of Raleigh. Traffic generated by these land developments are analyzed. A Manual of Guidelines is developed setting forth the steps that should be undertaken by a transportation planner in the development of preliminary planning for a proposed facility that might have an effect upon an urban area. Suggestions are made concerning desirable procedures for determining the environmental impact of the proposed facility. The manual discusses the inter-relation between land development and transportation planning. The manual and recommendations are applicable to automotively oriented developing cities in the 5,000 to 500,000 population size.
