NETWORK-LEVEL DEFLECTION DATA COLLECTION FOR RIGID PAVEMENTS. INTERIM REPORT

The existing rigid pavement deflection data contained in the Texas Pavement Evaluation System (PES) database are evaluated and found to be inadequate for any network-level study of the structural behavior of rigid pavements. The PES data were evaluated by comparing them with existing data contained in the University of Texas' Center for Transportation Research (CTR) rigid pavement database. Having found the data to be questionable, no further analysis was performed. For the network evaluation of the structural behavior of rigid pavements, recommendations are provided for future falling weight deflectometer (FWD) data collection for rigid pavements at the network level. The optimum sample size, the testing procedures, and a cost estimate for the data collection plan are given.
