DEVELOPMENT OF INSTRUMENTATION AND METHODOLOGIES FOR MEASUREMENT ABOARD SHIPS

For the past fifteen years CETENA has been carrying out contractual delivery sea trials on behalf of Italian shipyards and owners. This paper outlines the instrumentation and methodologies developed for the measurement and evaluation of data relative to: 1. Ship Speed. 2. Power, Thrust and rpm of Propeller. 3. Manoeuvring Characteristics. 4. Seakeeping. 5. Hull and Propeller Roughness. 6. Vibration and Noise. 7. Exciting Forces Induced by Propeller. 8. Structural Analysis. Data analysis techniques developed in parallel with the new instrumentation and measurement techniques are described and the paper concludes with a state-of-the-art summary of CETENA's data bank building program.
