EFFECT OF DEFORMATION OF PROPELLER SHAFT ON PERFORMANCE OF STERNTUBE BEARING

In order to prevent damage of the sterntube bearing due to misalignment, it is necessary to clarify the dynamic behaviour of propeller shafting system. The shaft is bent by the heavy propeller, action of the dynamic propeller force and deformation of the double bottom, and this affects the sterntube bearing. This paper presents a theoretical analysis of a sterntube bearing under a misaligned shaft. The relation between misalignment condition and performance of sterntube bearing has been investigated quantitatively.
