A STUDY ON PREDICTION METHOD FOR MANOEUVRING DERIVATIVES IN SHALLOW WATER

It is important that the effects of shallow water on the hydrodynamic derivatives of the ship's hull are correctly estimated when the manoeuvring motions of a ship in shallow water are to be predicted. In this paper the author investigates the influence of water depth on the inclination of the trailing vortices with respect to the wing surface, the inclinations at various depths being determined by iteration. If allowance is made for the effect of shallow water on the inclination more accurate results will be obtained for the ratio of the lateral forces in shallow water to those in deep water.
