ASPECTS OF OPTIMISING RO-RO DESIGNS

The paper outlines a simple "What would happen if?" approach to the optimal design of Ro-Ro vessels under uncertain market conditions. The approach takes account of potential future changes in technology and market developments. Optimal design selection criteria are employed to develop a design 'window' for an optimum ro-ro vessel solution. Finally, the paper discusses how specific new arrangements, constructional and operational features could be improved to give greater overall efficiency performance.
