THE CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL PREPARATION OF EARTHWORKS SLOPES FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF VEGETATION

The establishment of vegetation on earthslopes is very important for the prevention of erosion. The preparation of the seedbed, especially the chemical preparation, does not usually receive enough consideration. This paper describes the nature of the soil in the different climatic regions of South Africa and indicates, broadly, the type and amount of fertilizer to be used, for seedbed preparation, in these different regions. The physical preparation of the seedbed is also discussed. /Author/TRRL/
