FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF THE MTU 956/1163 SERIES ENGINES
A series of newly developed techniques enabled further development of the MTU 956/1163 series engines attaining a mean effective pressure of 30 bar, at the same time increasing the band width of the performance characteristics, with good consumption values. The compact construction has been retained, the weight-to-power ratio further reduced, and power output increased by 40% without raising the mechanical and thermal loads. The new techniques have no detrimental effect on starting and idling performance.
