ASSESSMENT OF AIR QUALITY IMPACTS -- IVHS IMPLEMENTATIONS IN SOUTHAMPTON & COLOGNE

This paper describes the development of an approach for the assessment of the air pollution impacts of Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS) implementations. The paper is based on work undertaken for Ford Motor Company (UK), as part of the DRIVE II project V2050 SCOPE (applications of IVHS in Southampton, Cologne and Piraeus). The study is based on the IVHS strategies for the cities of Southampton (UK), and Cologne. The primary technical objectives of SCOPE are to use Integrated IVHS Systems to inform travellers, manage traffic and influence travel demand, so as to reach a better balance between supply and demand, thereby reducing congestion, accidents and adverse environmental effects. SCOPE combines 3 sub-projects, known as ROMANSE (Southampton), VICTORIA (Cologne) and PORTS (Piraeus). This study is limited to ROMANSE (Road Management System for Europe) and VICTORIA (Overall Traffic Information System Cologne -- Technology, Organization, Integrated Applications).
