NATURAL GAS BUSES IN MALMOE
NATURGASDRIVNA BUSSAR I MALMOE
This report concerns trials with two standard citybuses powered by natural gas. The purpose of the trials has been partly to test a newly developed lightweight tank for natural gas powered vehicles and partly to aquire know-how about the infrastructure of gas powered vehicles. During the trial period an ambition to make one of the two vehicles emission-free using commercially available components arose. The trials have shown that the lightweight tank has superb qualities regarding function, durability and weight. The trial-buses have rolled without any serious technical mishaps. The possibility of obtaining "clean" vehicles powered by natural gas has proved to have an even higher potential than was initially expected. The outcome of these small adaptations has been very successful. The results from a noise level point of view alone are worth mentioning. The most difficult problem to tackle during the trial period has been of a bureaucratic rather than technical nature and is probably due to the fact that the high pressurized natural gas technique is so far an unapplied technology in Sweden.
