ROCKBURST MECHANISMS IN TUNNELS AND SHAFTS
Rockburst occurrences in tunnels have been reported from many countries, and it is apparent that there are different concepts of "rockbursting". In this paper, several different mechanisms of rockbursting are distinguished, and a clear distinction is drawn between source and damage mechanisms. Where appropriate, brief case studies of the different mechanisms are given. Finally, some thoughts are presented concerning support of tunnels subjected to rockbursting. (A)
