A STUDY OF SOME THEORETICAL ASPECTS OF SLAMMING

A mathematics-intensive design procedure is presented for estimating wave slamming loads acting on offshore structure members. Expressions for the parameters that govern slamming are derived and interpolated to the behavior of structural members subjected to loads under submerged conditions or when simply acted upon by wave loads. Consideration is given to tubular members and to stationary/nonstationary structures and their behavior in response to wave loads and slamming stresses. Also presented is a procedure for estimating slamming fatigue damage to the structural member of a fixed body. The appendices include a validation method for the theoretical probability distribution of slamming velocity and slamming impact occurrence.
