A NUMERICAL STUDY OF BUBBLE SWEEPDOWN AROUND BOW DOMES

Computations were carried out for the flow fields around large bow domes appended to a destroyer. The XYZ Free Surface Program was used to evaluate the resistance performance of three dome configurations. A qualitative measure of bubble sweepdown was developed in terms of the location of steady state streamlines on the hull. These streamlines were computed and then visualized with computer graphics. The performance of the three domes was compared on the basis of bubble generation and sweepdown.
