SHIPFORM CHARACTERISTICS AND MOTION RESPONSES IN SEAWAY OF VARIOUS CARGO SHIPS
The prediction of ship motion responses in rough seas usually requires data on shipform, on loading condition, and on seaway condition. In the initial design stage and while planning ship loading, for example, this detailed data is not yet available. To provide guidance in making these predictions, this paper presents actual data and mean values for shipform characteristics of general cargo ships, bulk carriers, pure car carriers and containerships. Motion responses of standardized ships of various lengths in short- crested irregular seas are analyzed by the ordinary strip method. The results are also compared with the guidelines of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) for acceleration components.
