REVIEW NEW PRACTICAL VIEWPOINTS ON YOUR STEAM-LINE INSULATION

The health hazards posed by asbestos necessitates the replacement of asbestos insulation with insulation composed of alternative materials that pose no hazard. The changeover offers an opportunity to optimize steam-line insulation. Fourteen characteristics desirable in new insulation are listed and discussed: the ability to withstand high temperatures; low thermal conductivity; high tensile strength; high corrosion resistance; low toxicity; workability; reusability after routine steam line inspections; economy; low linear shrinkage; high thermal shock resistance; low heat storage; sound insulation qualities; fire resistance; and water repellancy.
