COST BENEFITS OF MODIFIED BINDERS
A brief account is given of the use of modified binders in Northern Ireland. Modified binders have been particularly useful on 'average', 'average/difficult', and 'very difficult' routes where traffic is heavy. The use of conventional binders, Shellphalt SX, Shellgrip, Cariphalte DM and slurry sealing are described. The cost and life expectancy of pavements constructed using these various binders and surface treatments is considered.
