IVHS AND AIR QUALITY: RESULTS OF A NATIONAL WORKSHOP

The potential role of intelligent vehicle-highway systems (IVHS) in helping achieve air quality goals has, not surprisingly, become an increasingly visible and pressing issue. While the strategic plans for IVHS endorse achieving benefits such as clean air, the actual capability of these systems to produce useful results has been the subject of considerable debate. This paper reports on a national workshop that was recently held to identify aspects of the IVHS/air quality issue that could be addressed by technical analysis, and by doing so, would facilitate informed choices on using IVHS to achieve air quality goals.
