PACIFIC RIM TRANSTECH CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS. VOLUME I. IVHS STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR WASHINGTON STATE
The IVHS (intelligent vehicle highway system) strategic plan for Washington State includes a future vision from which specific strategies will be developed for the next 20 yars. This paper shows how the strategies are being developed to address specifc short, medium, and long range transportation needs within the state. For example, Washington State has adopted policies promoting the implementation of multimodal transportation programs, including HOV (high occupancy vehicles) systems and employer commute trip reduction plans. The Plan will be structured to assist these programs in a logical sequence over several years. The evaluation process used to assess the effectiveness of the strategies are described.
