MULTIPHASE DRIVER TRAINING FOR LORRY DRIVERS, A PROBLEM ANALYSIS

MEERFASE VRACHTAUTORIJOPLEIDING, EEN PROBLEEMSTELLENDE ANALYSE

The poor safety record of lorries is a real problem. Lack of insight in traffic and limited driving experience is an important factor in that problem. This problem can mainly be solved under controlled circumstances in a multiphase driver training. The need for more lorry drivers, which can be solved by enlisting young and inexperienced drivers, also requires modified driver training. Incoming drivers should be motivated to undertake a longer driver training, and their companies should be prepared to make on the job training and additional training possible for them. Decreasing the age from 18 to 17, a condition that such an extended driver training will be given, is therefore also a possibility.
