MAKING PROGRESS TOWARD CLEANER AIR
The 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) require the Washington area to meet federal ozone standards by 1999. They also require us to submit a plan by November 1994 showing how this will be accomplished. Concurrently, the region must also develop a plan by November 1993 that shows how we will reduce emissions fifteen percent by 1996 and three percent per year there-after. At the request of the District of Columbia and the states of Maryland and Virginia, the Council of Governments is currently developing these plans.
