HLR: A PC-BASED HEAVY LOAD ANALYSIS SYSTEM

HLR is a PC-based computer program developed by the Department of Road Transport to analyse the passage of heavy vehicles across structures lying on standard heavy load routes. Routes are created from a series of road links, each link being defined by a start and end node number. They may also be composed by linking portions of other previously defined routes extracted from the data base. Heavy load vehicles are defined in terms of their axle load, axle width and axle spacing as well as overall height and width. This paper describes the conceptual basis of the HLR system and the way in which routes, links and vehicles are created, stored and used. An outline is given of the analytical methodology on which the system is based, the control options available to the user and the types of reports generated as output. Operational aspects are presented and the primary system requirements are highlighted. For the covering entry of this conference, see IRRD abstract number 843191.
