AN OVERVIEW OF EVALUATION PLANS FOR INTELLIGENT VEHICLE-HIGHWAY SYSTEMS OPERATIONAL TESTS
As a result of 1990 and 1991 federal appropriations and authorizations for Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS), emphasis has shifted from research and development stages to operational tests (OT). In this report, an overview is given of the status of evaluation plans for the current 27 national operational test projects. These projects are fully or partly supported with funds administered by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) or the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). This report does not provide a critique of these plans, nor of their evaluation components but rather it provides a general status report of such efforts. It is important to note that most of these projects have been developed with the expectation that IVHS technologies can provide significant improvements in the transportation of people and goods.
