IVHS AMERICA: JAPAN TRIP REPORT

In this paper the author, Chairman of the IVHS American International Liaison Subcommittee, describes the objectives of his trip to Japan. The specific objectives were to: (1) Seek agreement and make arrangements for IVHS (North American) participation in the activities of VICS, PVS, and SSVS. (2) Investigate potential for funding of both basic and applied research that would be beneficial to both Japan and the U.S. (3) Develop a cooperative mechanism for the expeditious handling of standards and protocols on both a policy and working level. (4) Establish formal mechanisms for the regular flow of information on Japanese IVHS activities and papers to the IVHS America Information Clearinghouse and vice versa. (5) Establish personnel exchanges between government agencies and universities in IVHS activities. (6) Seek agreement for Japan to cosponsor with IVHS America and other professional societies, an annual international meeting on IVHS which would be held sequentially in Europe, Japan and North America. and (7) Arrange for folow-up technical study visits in June 1992 and on other dates.
