SHEET DEEP-DRIVING PROCESS FRICTION EFFECTS: EXPERIMENTAL TESTS, RESULT INTERPRETATION, NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS

This paper presents the analysis of friction effects in an automotive industry steel sheet deep-drawing process. Stress analysis was performed with the use of the non-linear codea, ABAQUS and MARC. Descriptions are given of the experimental test that was performed on eight circular FePO/sub4/steel sheets; the measured data are interpreted; and comparisons are made between the experimental test and numerical simulation data. The comparative analysis shows that even if the simulations were executed only in axisymmetric bi-dimensional geometry, some significant experimental results were reproduced in a satisfactory way. In addition, the analysis points out how a good knowledge of the phenomena and mathematical models is very important for the choice of the best strategy to adopt in a numerical situation.
