TRANSPORTATION, ENERGY AND THE ENVIRONMENT: THINGS ARE HEATING UP

This paper addresses the environmental and energy costs of transportation and discusses some of the means that governments, transportation experts, and industry can use to reduce this impact. In particular, the reduction of carbon dioxide, volatile organic compounds, oxides of nitrogen, and carbon monoxide emissions through technology, planning and lifestyle changes, standards, and taxation are addressed.
