ADAPTION OF SOAP84 FOR USE IN MALAYSIA. PROCEEDINGS, SIXTH CONFERENCE, ROAD ENGINEERING ASSOCIATION OF ASIA AND AUSTRALASIA, 4-10 MARCH 1990, KUALA LUMPUR, VOLUMES 1 TO 5 AND POST CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS

SOAP84, which was developed in the USA, has been widely tested and validated. Its non-data intensive characteristics are useful for practical applications as it is always costly and time consuming to obtain extensive field data. To enable SOAP84 to be used and produce reliable results in Malaysian traffic conditions, an adaptation process was performed. This paper describes the adaptation of SOAP84 by making several modifications to suit Malaysian roadway and traffic conditions. SOAP84's delays and queues were compared to field results to determine its suitability and applicability in Malaysia. It was found that modified SOAP84 produced comparable delay with actual field values but slightly overestimated the number of queues. High correlation, closed agreement and consistent results between SOAP84 and field values indicate that SOAP84 is suitable for use in Malaysia.
