ANIMATION OF AUTOMATED SPACE CONSTRUCTION. IN: PREPARING FOR CONSTRUCTION IN THE 21ST CENTURY, PROCEEDINGS OF CONSTRUCTION CONGRESS '91, SPONSORED BY THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS IN COOPERATION WITH THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF MINING ENGINEERS AND THE AMERICAN ARBITRATION ASSOCIATION, CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS, APRIL 13-16, 1991

This paper presents a discussion of Three-Dimensional Computer Animation as applied to the evaluation of Lunar/Mars construction. A number of applications for this type of tool are introduced. As this paper relates to research currently being done in cooperation with NASA, an exchange of related concerns and methodologies are presented. Presently, NASA is using computer animation software to evaluate different construction scenarios. This method of analysis provides an actual graphical representation of construction stages and is viewed as a most insightful technique. This approach is equally valid in terrestrial applications. Animation is expected to become known as a very valuable and common tool in the construction industry.
