THE EFFECT OF THE SINGLE ACT ON THE POSITION OF THE DUTCH INTERNATIONAL ROAD HAULAGE INDUSTRY

HET NEDERLANDSE INTERNATIONALE BEROEPSGOEDERENVERVOER OVER DE WEG EN DE EUROPESE MARKT NA 1992; MENINGEN VAN VERVOERDERS EN VERLADERS

The year 1992 will create a larger market and more competition. In this article a study is described on the opinion of transport firms and shippers in this matter. The costs of the Dutch road haulage companies will be higher than the costs in most other countries, but the high quality of Dutch firms will keep them in competition. Shippers are even more optimistic about this than transport firms. Important aspects of this quality are flexibility and reliability. The policy of the European Community towards a greater emphasis on rail and inland waterways will not have a dramataic effect on this sector: it will only move part of the growth. Road haulage transport itself will however continue to grow within any scenario. (Author/TRRL)
