PUGET SOUND TRANSPORTATION PANEL AFTER TWO WAVES. IN: TRANSPORTATION PLANNING METHODS APPLICATIONS. PROCEEDINGS, THIRD NATIONAL CONFERENCE, DALLAS, TEXAS, APRIL 22-26, 1991

The Puget Sound Transportation Panel is the first general-purpose travel panel survey in an urban area in the United States. Initiated in 1989 by the Puget Sound Council of Governments, it is similar in design and direction to the Dutch National Mobility Panel, but is alo descended from the long line of cross-section urban travel surveys in the U.S. and is more focused on the transportation and transit policy issues in U.S. cities. The first wave of the PSTP was conducted in the fall of 1989. It consisted of initial contacts, a telephone interview, and travel diaries oompleted by household members. A follow-up was made in December 1989 for the purposes of address verification and correction. An attitudes and values survey, developed by transit marketing and university researchers, was administered to the panel in February 1990. Another contact, preparing for the second wave, was made in the summer of 1990. The second wave, including full interviews and travel diaries, took place in the fall of 1990. The paper discusses the findings of the second wave and makes recommendations for analysis of the results.
