TENSION SOFTENING DIAGRAMS OF STEEL FIBER REINFORCED CONCRETE. FRACTURE OF CONCRETE AND ROCK: RECENT DEVELOPMENTS. PAPERS PRESENTED AT THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, UNIVERSITY OF WALES, COLLEGE OF CARDIFF, SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING, SEPTEMBER 20-22, 1989

Li's J-integral method to determine tension softening curves of concrete from three-point bending tests of notched beams is outlined and then a modified new J-integral method is proposed. The validity of these two methods are examined by means of numerical analysis. The tension softening curves of steel fiber reinforced concrete are determined by the new J-integral method and are compared with those obtained from direct tensile tests. The following conclusions are obtained: (1) Li's J-integral method for determining tension softening curves is accurate, but is quite sensitive to the scatter in experimental data; (2) Though the new J-integral method does not have high accuracy, it can give the shape of the tension softening curve with acceptable accuracy; (3) The shapes of tension softening curves determined from both the new J-integral method and the tensile tests are quite similar with each other.(A) For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 829348.
