DETERMINATION OF RUBBER CONTENTS OF MODIFIED BITUMINOUS BINDERS BY THIN LAYER CHROMATOGRAPHY . 5TH CONFERENCE ON ASPHALT PAVEMENTS FOR SOUTHERN AFRICA (CAPSA 89). PROCEEDINGS HELD IN SWAZILAND, 5-9 JUNE, 1989

Thin layer chromatography (TLC) has been applied to the semi quantitative determination of rubber in both hot and cold modified binders. The determination of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in tar has also been developed. The methods used are rapid compared to conventional techniques and inexpensive once basic equipment is available. This paper describes the determination of rubber in modified bituminous binders by TLC. The method for PVC is not given in full here and has been published elsewhere. It is thought that such methods may be extendable into field use, i.e. on site determinations/control in a simple field laboratory.(A) For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 828827.
