DEVELOPMENT OF HEAVY DUTY MARINE GAS TURBINES

Describes the development of heavy duty marine gas turbines from right after World War II to the present, and it also discusses prospects for gas turbines in the future. The background of the development of these engines includes a discussion of the regenerative-cycle, two-shaft gas turbine used aboard the GTS JOHN SERGEANT, and how this original engine was subsequently modified and increased in rated power output. Modern applications of this updated engine on several different types of vessels are discussed, and future improvements for the engine are also described.
