COMPUTER PROGRAM SIGCAP FOR ASSESSING THE TRAFFIC CAPACITY OF SIGNAL-CONTROLLED ROAD JUNCTIONS-DESCRIPTION AND MANUAL FOR USERS

Starting from conventional data describing a signal-controlled road junction and the pattern of traffic passing through it, the computer program SIGCAP estimates the practical traffic capacity of the junction, calculates signal settings which maximise the practical capacity, and provides indications of the amount by which the capacity can be altered by various methods which may be available to the traffic engineer. SIGCAP accepts data in a familiar form and provides output in traffic engineering terms. It is thus intended for everyday use by traffic engineers without recourse to advice from specialists in computing. This paper describes in some detail the facilities provided by the program and the way in which it is used, as well as outlining the principles upon which it is based. ;Author;
