BEARING CAPACITY MEASUREMENT BY MEANS OF DROP HAMMER DEFLECTOMETER. EVALUATION OF EQUIPMENT AND MEASURING PROCEDURE

BAERIGHETSBESTAEMNING MED FJAEDRAD FALLVIKT. PROVNING AV UTRUSTNING OCH MAETFOERFARANDE

One intention of this work was to investigate the peak value, shape and duration of the force and deformation pulses when a surface is loaded with a falling weight deflectometer (fwd). The pulse initiated by the fwd simulates a fast moving wheel load. To ensure that the load impulse is evenly distributed over the surface, alternative solutions have been examined. The best results were obtained if uneven surfaces, such as gravelled roads, were made even with sand on which the loading plate was placed without a rubber plate between the loading plate and sand levelling. The fwd has also been used for control of the increase in bearing capacity on a subgrade of clay stabilized with slaked lime. The possibility of using the fwd for compaction control was examined; the correlation between compaction and dynamic elastic modulus was found to be low. /TRRL/
