PEDESTRIAN CROSSWALK SIGNAL ACTIVATION DEMONSTRATION
This report presents a detailed description of the design, fabrication and installation of a new pedestrian crosswalk signal activation device. The prototype device had the unique capabilities of being able to vary crossing times for the benefit of elderly and disabled pedestrians, and of providing audible and visual signal status information. The device was installed by the city of Edmonton on a demonstration basis in February 1987 in a downtown residential area. Technical and user evaluations of the prototype control device are included in this report, along with design drawings and recommendations for further development and manufacture. (a)
