INFLUENCE OF CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF ITALIAN FLY ASHES ON REACTIVITY TOWARDS LIME, PHOSPHOGYPSUM AND WATER

The behaviour of five Italian fly ashes in mixtures with lime, phosphogypsum and water has been investigated at 25 and 40 deg C using a composition ratio fly ash:lime:phosphogypsum of 60:40:20. The experimental results have shown that particle size distribution mainly influences fly ash reactivity at early ages, while chemical composition and amorphous phase content play a prevailing role at later ages. The reaction products, calcium trisulphoaluminate and silicate hydrates, make these systems interesting in the field of building materials. (TRRL)o
