CONFLICT OBSERVATION, THE PRINCIPLE AND POSSIBILITIES OF APPLICATION
CONFLICT OBSERVATIE, PRINCIPE EN TOEPASSINGSMOGELIJKHEDEN
The determination of the effectiveness of measures to improve traffic safety is rather difficult, using available accident data because: (1) at a certain place few accidents occur, (2) the recording of accidents is not complete or (3) mostly no accident causes are known. Therefore new methods for the determination of traffic safety are wanted. The most important one is conflict method, introduced from Sweden. It is concluded that this technique is very suitable to get an insight into the causes of these problems on a certain spot. The causes are better determined because the traffic behaviour just before the conflict is taken into account in the observations. (TRRL)
